Fionnuala Hanahoe

Fionnuala Hanahoe has created modular sculptural designs that ask to be customised through interaction from a passing public. Park Reflecting is a sculpture that is always in flux. It offers anyone who happens upon the artwork the opportunity to creatively engage with the modular acrylic parts and to make a public artwork of their own. The seductive and playful materials in this work reference the cellular forms in nature, the pupil of the eye and negative space. The glossy black acrylic shapes reflect the environment of the park presenting the viewer with an alternative perception of the space around them.

Hanahoe has recently completed an BA in Fine Art from The National College of Art and Design Dublin (2009) and is currently based at Red Stables Artists Studios. She was selected for Open EVA (an international showcase of contemporary art), in Limerick 2010. Hanahoe designs artworks that have the potential to share a creative experience with the viewer and is interested in offering the potential for experienced knowledge rather than mediated knowledge, and ‘doing’ as another way of seeing and contemplating, or relating to an artwork. Her work specifically investigates the notion of a metaphysical or poetic space, through the exploration of physical space while using materials which encourage immersive, playful and open-ended engagement.
