Swedish artist, Lars Wikström is currently residing in The Red Stables International studio until the end of August. Lars uses various printing techniques in his work, both old and new. He combines digital photography with traditional printing methods. He recently gave a photo etching demonstration and will give a 
presentation on his work in Graphic Studio Dublin, Distillery House on Wednesday 17th August at 5pm.

Kevin Kavanagh is pleased to present Room Outside, an exhibition of new and older work that concerns itself with the idea of landscape but more specifically the artist’s representation of a room outside whether it’s a real physical space or an imagined constructed space.
Using Northern Forest (see image ) by Michelle Considine as a starting point, the exhibition presents new paintings by Oliver Comerford, Stephen Loughman, Dermot Seymour, Sinéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Paul McKinley. A selection of Nevan Lahart’s Goya’s Gaia that featured at Preview Berlin 2010, and two recent photographs by Sean Lynch that featured at Volta 7 Basel (2011). A recent watercolour by German artist Karin Brunnermeier and a new work on paper by Michelle Considine. Two photographs from Patrick Jolley’s Ice House, a selection of work from Gary Coyle’s ongoing project , At Sea, the Daily Practice of Swimming and finally sculpture by Tadhg McSweeney and German artist Ulrich Vogl.

The Douglas Hyde Gallery

This exhibition – the first such show to take place at the Douglas Hyde Gallery since 1990 – is an informal gathering of Irish paintings that have been inspired, in various ways, by landscape. Intended to have an air of lightness and ease, it is also a reflection of darker, more ambiguous, moods and currents in the world.
I invited artists to take part in this summer exhibition in much the same way as I might put together a list for a party. Some are old friends; others are acquaintances; a few are people I don’t really know but whose work I find interesting for one reason or another. Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to make the gathering more comprehensive or all-embracing.
To give the exhibition a particular focus, artists were asked to propose two or three works that might throw some light on the idea of ‘liminality’ – in-between places, edges, thresholds, points at which something is transformed – and I chose the final image from their suggestions. It has been an interesting and enjoyable process, and I thank all the artists for their enthusiasm and generosity.

An exhibition of mixed media drawings, paintings and sculptural works by Mayo-born artist Mary Noonan. “This work is a reflection of my research into Irish folklore and superstition relating to ‘fairy-faith’, particularly from the late 19th and early 20th century. It also has a direct relationship to my own upbringing on a farm in Mayo. The materials and processes I use, such as tearing and cutting the paper, become a metaphor for psychological aspects of uncovered narrative. The work is informed by a sense of the uncanny and explores ideas relating to identity, landscape and cultural history.” Mary has both a BA and MFA in Painting from NCAD. Currently based in Dublin, she has exhibited widely since 2000 including COE Claremorris Open Exhibition (2006, 2007, 2010), RUA Annual Show (2008) RHA Annual Show (2011, 2010) and was an invited artist at TULCA 2010. This is Mary’s 6th solo exhibition.

Cecilia’s work investigates the potential of a metaphorical journey taken with the aim to heal ones inner self. Martina Galvin’s photographic works explores various forms of light and feature landscapes of liminal light and Maria Makrai’s work presents compositions of the built environment rendered through abstract drawing.

The essay “Process–ional’ Geographies” by James Merrigan was written in anticipation of the group exhibition ‘fractures, lines and light’.
Every July, Dublin City Council invites applications for the Irish Artists’ Residential Studio Award. This highly sought after award is intended to support an emerging Irish visual artist at an early stage of their professional practice and runs from November 2011 to November 2012.
The Award includes:
- Studio and living accommodation at nominal rent of €200 per month for a one-year period (incudes light & heating costs);
- Inclusion in Exhibition Programme at The LAB, Foley Street, Dublin 1;
- Administrative and curatorial support through Dublin City Council’s Arts Office;
- Wireless broadband internet access.

The Red Stables presents a temporary art exhibition at various locations in St. Anne’s park inspired by the nonsensical elements of the Lewis Carroll’s book ‘Alice, Through the Looking Glass’. The exhibition prompts questions about the notion of what can be considered logical, encouraging visitors to enter a world of fantasy. Eleven artists have been chosen to create work that is engaged with notions of impossibility, the uncanny and the imaginary to create a labyrinth of site specific
installations and live art.

Toine Horvers, a Dutch performance artist is currently staying at the International studio of The Red Stables on a two month residency. His work investigates language both written and oral. He describes his observations of situations that occur in daily life through performances, recordings, drawings, sound installations and hand written books.
Toine will be giving a talk on his work and a performance at The Broadcast Gallery, D.I.T., St. Joseph’s Convent, Portland Row, Dublin 1, on Thursday 31st March at 5pm.
Copying as a Ritual Act is a performance by Toine Horvers based on fragments of speech recorded from passers-by in the crowded streets of Dublin city. The performance will take place at Pallas Studios, Dominick Street Lower, Dublin 1 on Wednesday 6th April at 7.30pm, followed by an additional performance involving participants on Friday 15th April at 6pm.
